We all have much more free time right now because of the coronavirus pandemic we are currently facing. I think we all know what that means, a lot more time to watch our favorite movies and tv shows. While sitting around with nothing to do you may just find yourself thinking back on different movies you have watched in the past, and you suddenly just get the urge to watch the movie again. Well this has happened to me a couple times recently. I found an older movie that I almost didn’t even remember, and I had forgot how much I enjoyed it. This movie is none other than Bicentennial Man starring Robin Williams.
Overall, this movie is a very heartwarming film and it gives us a great message about humanity and freedom. The film tells us the story of a robot named Andrew (NDR14) played by Robin Williams. This sentient robot learns how to laugh, create and love. The film shows Andrew’s 200-year long journey to eventually become a real man who can feel, taste and even age. When he finally becomes a real man with flesh, he ends up falling in love with his master’s great granddaughter named Portia Charney, and he wants to be with her. His journey does not end there though, because Andrew wants to be considered more then just a robot. He seeks freedom and wants to be considered a real man. This lifetime challenge ends up following him to his death bed, but in the end the world finally considered him a real human being.
Surprisingly this movie does not have good reviews and even bombed in the box office in 1999. I believe it is a very underrated movie that teaches what it means to be human. We all are on our own journey and deserve to live our lives how we choose to. This is a good lesson to take in while we have some free time to breath and reflect on our lives while we are at home during this pandemic. In the end this movie tells us to find who we are and that we should do everything we can to make the most out of our lives and be happy with ourselves.
